Dukat is Dukat. He may help us on occasion, he may save a puppy from being hit by a truck, he may even make us laugh and feel good about him in an unguarded moment, but those things only round out his character, they do not salvage him as a character.

∟TV SHOW MEME → [1/5] Male Characters
♠ Raylan Givens, Justified#the show is soooo good specifically at ‘raylan givens: iconographic masculine paragon’ #because in being a figure crafted out of america’s most self-indulgent self-narrativization (the old west) he is inherently ridiculous #he’s over the top he’s unbearably magnetic he’s so masculine he wraps back around to feminine #and yet the show just presents this in all it’s ridiculousness and veracity and we buy it #partially because tim olyphant is a weird alien from the planet charisma #but partially because by the simple act of being aware of the narrative exeptionalism the show makes his existence completely believable #everyone knows raylan’s a ludicrous relic gunslinger lawman #raylan /stole art’s tombstone poster/ #and they work around living with a walking talking breathing shooting icon #by just /constantly making fun of that fact/ #in a way that doesn’t take from the reality of it but does make it more real #he’s the man men want to be and the man women want to be with #but that’s NOT A GOOD THING #and in that the show can have him walk around like a marshal angel from western heaven and we buy it
The ones that love us never really leave us.
